Onze site werd gevonden door Shemaiah Libman, kleinzoon van Samuel Baron, een infanterist uit het 28th .
Hieronder twee krantenknipels, waarin Samuel Baron genoemd wordt:
In het krantenbericht rechts, lees je, dat Sam helemaal alleen een Duitse patrouille krijgsgevangen maakte.
Dit zegt kleinzoon kleinzoon Shemaiah daarover:
“Sam was a great story teller and from time to time I would ask him about ww2. The few war stories he shared, he would minimize the intensity of the experience. Telling tales in a humorous way.
An article I sent you mentions a time when he captured a German patrol. He would tell the story that he was wondering through the woods and he came across some type of German Shelter.
Sam spoke Yiddish/German and yelled toward the shack that they were surrounded and to come out with arms raised. He thought that there were only a couple of guys in that shack and he would
jokingly talk about how one man after another came out until there were 12 troops with hands raised in front of him. As a young boy I asked him if he was afraid with 12 against him. He replied that
these German soldiers were worn down by the war and ready to surrender.”
